Making Education in Longmeadow an Extraordinary Experience

The Longmeadow Educational Excellence Foundation (LEEF) is a private, volunteer, non-profit (tax exempt 501-C-3) organization established in 2001 to enrich, enhance, and support the quality of education in the Longmeadow public schools. LEEF is committed to underwriting grants to provide our schools (K-12) with extraordinary opportunities beyond the scope of our tax supported budgets.

To learn more about how you can help LEEF, please visit our Contribute page, or download our Volunteer Form.

In The News

2008 Phonathon The annual spring Phonathon was March 31st through April 2nd this year. LEEF board members and other volunteers called our friends and neighbors asking for donations to LEEF. This year volunteers collected $47,000 in contributions and pledges. All contributions to LEFF are tax deductible gifts that are used to enhance the educational experience of all Longmeadow students.

Seedling Image 2007 LEEF Gala The 2007 Gala was held at Longmeadow Country Club on November 17. Again the event was great fun and a big win for Longmeadow students, raising upwards of $60 thousand for enhanced education. Thanks to our coordinators and volunteers, the many people and businesses who contributed and to the attendees.

If you would like to volunteer or contribute something to the 2008 Gala, please send an email to Gala co-chairs Judi Threlfall and Ann Burke at gala@LongmeadowLeef.org.

2008 Longmeadow Resource Guide Last year, LEEF introduced the Longmeadow Resource Guide. Containing over sixty pages of important town and school information, this guide was distributed to every house in Longmeadow - over 5,000 households. Instrumental to the success of the Resource Guide was the support of local businesses and community members who made a financial commitment through ad placements.

Several enhancements have been made to this year's guide. They include:
* An Advertisers Index (which will make it easier for customers to locate your ad and contact information).
* Updates and revisions to Town and School information (which keep the Guide current and useful to our readers).

The Guide will be published again in the spring of 2009. If you missed the opportunity to advertise this year, please see the following 2008 flyer and letter: Resource Guide Advertising Flyer, and Letter for Prospective Advertisers.

PayPal LEEF can now accept donations via the online payment service PayPal®. PayPal accepts major credit cards, so you don't need a PayPal account. Please visit the Contribute Now page where you'll find a Make a Donation button that will take you to PayPal's secure site.

2006/2007 Fund Raisers The 2006 Gala was held Saturday, November 18th, and again the event was a big success on several levels. The food was excellent, the musical entertainment was outstanding and a good time was had by all. But the bottom line is the Gala raised (drum roll...) $50,000 for Longmeadow schools!

The results are also in on the School & Town Resource Guide. The Resource Guide raised $33,000 in just 10 weeks! Together our fall fund raisers have contributed $83,000 toward programs that make education in Longmeadow an extraordinary experience.

The spring Phonathon brought in just under $60,000 in pledges - a record for LEEF.

The LEEF Board would like to thank our volunteers for their hard work in making the Gala, Resource Guide and Phonathon possible. And a very big thank you to the businesses and individuals who are embracing Longmeadow schools by participating in our fund raising events.

Our Mission

The mission of LEEF is to create and maintain a fund that provides grants for innovative education and enrichment programs beyond the tax-supported budget for the benefit of Longmeadow public school students. The foundation is an autonomous, long-term institution that strives to ensure the excellence of Longmeadow Public Schools and promotes a proprietary sense of ownership and pride within the community.

What We Do

Each year, LEEF will solicit proposals from teachers and administrators at each school. A Grant Committee of educators, community advisers, and designated LEEF board members will prioritize and review the proposals according to merit, need or available funds. No idea is too big or small for consideration.

What We Don't Do

LEEF is not part of the Longmeadow Public School District. It is a separate and distinctly independent entity.

  • We do not fund teacher salaries
  • We do not fund building projects
  • LEEF does not report to the school committee

Benefits to Our Schools

LEEF's efforts directly benefit our schools by:

  • Providing funds beyond the tax-supported public funding
  • Providing teachers with creative teaching tools to expand on curriculum objectives
  • Focusing on improvements in all areas of academics including technology
  • Promoting activities, programs and services for the faculty in order to strengthen the students understanding and knowledge at a competitive level
  • Encouraging community and business involvement in the public schools in a positive and supportive manner
  • Facilitating a partnership with the Longmeadow community that addresses the strengths and innovative programs offered in the Longmeadow Public Schools
